Bill PowellMaintenance Director
I was born in rural Winterset, Iowa, then moved with my parents and four brothers to different towns in Iowa, ending up in Zearing, Iowa where I attended kindergarten to 8th grade. We then moved to Huxley, Iowa where I attended 9th-12th grade. My first jobs were mowing yards and paper routes. I joined the Navy when I was 19 during the Vietnam war for 4 years. After the service, I went to DMACC in Ankeny for Telecommunications (I wanted to be a telephone man just like my dad.) I couldn’t find work close to home, so I went back to school at the National Education Center in Des Moines and obtained an Associate’s degree in Electronic Engineering Technology. Electronics has always fascinated me and is one of my hobbies. I worked for 8 years working on pinball machines, jukeboxes, and video games. I was then a senior maintenance technician at Burke Marketing for 10 years. I then went to Mary Greeley Medical Center where I was a Biomedical Electronics Technician maintaining dialysis machines and the water systems for 14 years. I retired in 2018 but was looking for something to do and found my present position as Maintenance Director here at Windsor!
